Winter 2008
SNOW WALKS

July 27th and August 24th - u
nlike previous years where we had fixed dates and once arriving sometimes there was no snow, we are going to trial running it on-demand as well as two fixed dates.

We ask you to register with us ASAP and depending on
the weather we will contact everyone by email or phone
that the event is on.

Sunday, 27th July & 24th August

This is our 5th year at Mt Margaret and 6th year of snow outings. 2007 saw only one good day at Mt Margaret and so far, by the Queens birthday there has not been much snow. We hope everyone will be praying to the gods that this season will be great with huge dumps of snow.

Mt. Margaret is at 1145 metres, with a good chance of snow if the weather is cold enough. Mt. Margaret has an additional benefit of virtually no road traffic making it safer to walk the dogs.

Once again, we have organised two dates for more flexibility and allowing in case of poor snow conditions i.e. an alternative date, or you may come to both?

Should there be no snow, we have planned an alternative walk inthe area.

Distance: Melbourne to Buxton 100kms - allow 2 hrs travel time where we will meet

(Buxton is 34kms from Healsville but slow travelling over the Black Spur)

Meeting Place: Picnic Park in Buxton on left hand side of road just after you cross the Little Steavenson River bridge opposite Buxton Trout & Salmon Farm. Once everyone arrives, we'll travel up to the snow at Mt. Margaret - 20kms at a steady 40kph.

Road Conditions: The road to Mt. Margaret is a good dirt road, and we highly recommend you carry tire chains and know how to fit them. Depending on how many members come we may be able to "carpool" if you do not wish to drive on the snow covered road.

Meeting Time: 10am

Mobile Phones: Once over the Black Spur generally out of range

Fuel: available in Narbethong & Buxton

Where is Buxton?

Melway Ed. 30 Map 610 S/T 10/11

Clothes: Last year too many members were inadequately dressed. It should be C O L D!

You need warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, waterproof shoes, sunglasses, water proof-pants, gloves, sunblock, small first aid kit, day backpack, warm head wear and towels to dry your Berner after they play in the snow.

Food: Bring your lunch and some hot soup, coffee or tea. If you have a camp chair it would be handy to sit down. We return down the mountain to the Buxton picnic ground.

What else to bring? Water and bowl for your dog, poo bags, Dog snacks, Dog stake and chain

What will we do at the summit? After parking the cars, we will go for a walk (staying as a group) or play in the parking area. The route walked will depend on the weather and the amount of snow on the day.

RSVP: Everyone MUST contact us to advise they are coming so that we do not wait for someone who may not turn up. Please also contact me if you change your mind.

What else to do: Marysville is nearby for hot chocolate, coffee and cake
